How Does Rightslink Work

Locate the content using the Civil Engineering Database (CEDB) or the ASCE Research Library.

When you have located the appropriate record, click the “Permission for Reuse” button to open Rightslink®.

If you are a first-time user, create a Rightslink® account (a two-step process).

Select a Permissions option from the drop-down menu. (Some permission requests cannot be completed through Rightslink® and require additional assistance from ASCE. If you select such a category, you will see a redirect message with further information.)

Enter additional order-related information.

Click the Quick Price button to obtain a price estimate before placing your order. (The price you are charged involves many variables, such as number of pages of content being reused, requester type, quantity, and a royalty fee set by ASCE. Royalty fees are established by the publisher and cannot be waived or negotiated. There is a minimum fee of $15 for Rightslink® orders.)

Click the Place Order button to begin the order process. To place your order, you will be prompted to set up an account or confirm/edit account information; confirm your order; and accept the terms and conditions.

After you accept the terms and conditions, an order confirmation is displayed listing the details of your Rightslink® order. It offers additional links for viewing the terms and conditions, editing your account information, and editing your order specifications. An e-mail confirmation will be sent to your e-mail account, listing the details of your order as well as a copyright citation for your reuse purposes.
