No Ordinary Fix


ABSTRACT ONLY:

By reusing certain elements of a 50-year-old floating bridge, experts in British Columbia were able to design a new lake crossing with a fixed elevated span and two additional traffic lanes. A public-private partnership made the project feasible.

Darryl Matson, P.E., P.Eng, is the vice president of Buckland & Taylor Ltd., in Vancouver, British Columbia, and Karsten Veng, Eduardo Pradilla, P.Eng., M.ASCE, and Keith Kirkwood, P.Eng., are engineers with the firm. Pradilla was the resident engineer with the WRB Bridge Group during this project.
