ABSTRACT ONLY:

A series of innovative T-shaped supports underscores the structural and architectural design of a 165,000 sq ft (15,000 m2) addition to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, in Kansas City, Missouri, as well as of an adjoining underground parking garage that is topped by a skylight-pierced reflecting pool. Although the addition is also located mostly underground, it is distinguished by five translucent glazed structures that rise above grade to channel natural light into the lobby and key gallery spaces below.
