Capitol Achievement

ABSTRACT ONLY:

More than 200 years after its construction, Virginia’s capitol building was too small to accommodate the business of government. To make matters worse, the building—designed by Thomas Jefferson—was deteriorating. A $105-million renovation and expansion project, completed in 2007, addressed those concerns not only by renovating and restoring the historic structure but also by constructing a spacious underground extension.
