ABSTRACT ONLY:

Relics discovered at an ancient Roman flour mill in southern France suggest that  the site was used to test various designs of millstones that could take advantage of the increased power of hydraulically driven mills.

By Wayne F. Lorenz, P.E., the president of Wright Water Engineers, a civil engineering firm based in Denver, and a research associate with the Wright Paleohydrologic Institute, a nonprofit institute that studies how ancient man used water; and Phillip J. Wolfram, S.M.ASCE, who is working as an intern at Wright Water Engineers while pursuing a civil engineering degree at the Colorado School of Mines.
