Your manuscript submission must include several additional components and forms. These materials and forms are required for ASCE Press books and must be prepared before your manuscript is turned over by the Acquisitions Editor to production and marketing.
Abstract
The abstract is a brief (100-word) paragraph description of your book’s contents. To be most useful, the abstract should present the purpose of the book, the scope of the effort, the procedures used to execute the work (if of special interest), and the major findings. It will be used to market your book and to describe your book in the Civil Engineering Database. Submit the abstract as a word-processed file.
Figure captions, with credit lines
All figure captions, including the figure number, title, notes, source, and credit lines, must be submitted as word-processed files so that they may be copyedited. Gather figure captions into one file per chapter. More details on submtting figures
Illustration and Permissions Inventory
The Illustration and Permissions Inventory is a Word file that lists every table and figure that appears in your book along with information about permission status, credit lines, and file format. This inventory helps the Acquisitions Editor ensure that permissions have been obtained and credit lines are correct; it also helps the Books Production Manager keep track of your figures and tables so they appear correctly in the finished book.
Permissions correspondence
All figures, tables, and blocks of text that are not original to you must have permission from the copyright owner of the original. See Obtaining Permissions for a description of permission requirements.
Permission Verification Form (PVF)
The Permission Verification Form must accompany your manuscript, even if there are no illustrations or all illustrations are original with you. You must complete and sign the form, and submit it as hard copy, fax, or PDF.
Cover Suggestion Form
Your cover will be designed by a professional graphic artist. While the final decisions about the cover belong to ASCE Press, your input is very important. Please complete the ASCE Press Cover Suggestion Form, noting any preferences you may have, and accompany it with photographs or electronic art files that you think would be appropriate.

Use the Manuscript Submission Checklist to verify that you have prepared all the materials we require; the Acquisitions Editor and Books Production Manager will use this form to ensure that everything is included in the finished book.
